Notes
((Governor tr’Taev’s Quarters - Aihsa Tikal, Xibalba))
Ro-Dolma: di’Ranov. It’s time to go.
::Siro rose slowly from his prayer matt. He was not as young as he used to be and time had not been kind to his body. The sight of his daughter warmed his tired bones but the look in her eyes showed none of her former affection. He knew that it was to be expected and given the circumstances. He had after all been her captor since the age of three years old. He sighed.::
tr’Taev: It is good to see you e’lev. I was beginning to wonder if I would ever see you again. Gods know I have no right to.
Ro-Dolma: No, you don’t. I am here as a curtesy to Hitok. Were it my choice you would still be locked away on the Island.
::Siro’s eyes dropped to the ground. He had expected as much.::
tr’Taev: Is that any way to treat the man who raised you?
Ro-Dolma: Does the man who abducted me from my real family expect anything less?
tr’Taev: No. I suppose I shouldn’t.
::He steeled himself. It was still early days still and the road to recovery was paved with good intentions. Before he could answer a shadow appeared in the doorway.::
Hitok: Rinam, you shouldn’t be so hard on di’Ranov.
::The Rigelian leaned casually against the door frame. Hitok was a couple of years older than Ashla and the two had been raised as brother and sister despite their different species. He was tall and wiry. His green skin tensed across his arms as he crossed them and his muscles flexed. He wore tan trousers and vest top. At his hip was a telescopic bow staff; the primary weapon of the honour guard. Siro had salvaged the staves that Hitok and Gina Hopkins used from the Island. Ashla’s face softened as she turned towards him. She brushed a lock of his hair away from his face and tucked it behind his ear before embracing him warmly.::
Ro-Dolma: Dinam. It’s good to see you, but di’Ranov is not the sainted man you believe him to be.
Hitok: No, rinam, but he is still the man that raised you and cared for you; cared for all of us and kept us alive.
Ro-Dolma: We’re it not for what he did we wouldn’t have been on that Island in the first place!
Hitok: No, YOU would not have been on the Island! I still would have been. Gina would still have been. Countless others would still have been on the Island but you would not!
::Her eyes dropped to the floor and she pushed him out of the door way.::
Ro-Dolma: Get your things Hitok. I’ll wait for you at the runabout.
::She disappeared out of sight. The sound of her boots echoing down the hallway. Siro sighed again.::
tr’Taev: She has every right to be angry with me son.
Hitok: But she doesn’t know the truth di’Ranov.
tr’Taev: No and with luck she never will. Better for her to be returned to her family and hate me even if she is wrong about my role than for her to be chasing ghosts of a woman long since gone.
::Siro handed his bag to Hitok who grunted.::
tr’Taev: Come along. We had best not keep her waiting.
Governor Siro tr'Taev of Xibalba
((Diplomatic Quarters – Themis Rock))
::D’Nal busied himself looking through the remaining senate records. Something had been nagging at him since his arrival on the Outpost. Something about Senator Trebak was nagging at him. He sighed and dismissed the thought again. He sat back on the couch and let his head lean back. He closed his eyes.::
::So much had happened since Hobus had been destroyed. So much was still in flux. Many of D’Nal’s people were still missing and unaccounted for. Many had found their way to Outpost 319. In the time since the first had arrived D’Nal had moved to Xibalba and been appointed by the population as joint provisional Governor along with Major Siro tr’Taev.::
::D’Nal had arrived at the Outpost for the conference two days ago with his honour guard, the former Starfleet Marine, Gina Hopkins. Hopkins was an excellent bodyguard. She was recovering well from the substance abuse that had taken hold of her during her time on the other side of the Iconian Gateway. He had met Hopkins shortly after his arrival on Xibalba. She had been experiencing difficulty adjusting to the new society.::
::Starfleet Medical had broken her addiction, but due to the issues faced in setting up Aihsa Tikal their aftercare had been somewhat lacking. Starfleet had discharged her on medical grounds. Hopkins felt betrayed by Starfleet and feel rapidly in to depression. D’Nal had taken her in. Upon his election he offered her the position at his side. She felt she owed him her life and as such made a fierce protector. He felt he may need her in the coming days.::
:: Major tr’Taev was due to arrive within the next solar day with his honour guard Hitok for the official start of the conference. Until then he was using the time to try and figure out what was jarring his nerve about Trebak. He opened his eyes and stood up.::
D’Nal: Gina, I’m heading out for a walk. Would you care to join me?
::Hopkin’s head appeared from out of one of the bedrooms within the ample diplomatic suite he had been assigned by Commander Ro. He sincerely hoped that she wasn’t showing him favouritism considering the friendship that had budded between them during the refugee crisis.::
Hopkins: Just let me freshen up and I’ll be right with you.
::Moments later she appeared in the living room. She had a powerful build and her SFMC issue buzz cut was beginning to grow out. Her hair was a vibrant shade of auburn. She wore a pair of dark trousers that tucked in to her former SFMC issue boots and a dark green fitted Romulan style wrap around jacket over a black tunic shirt. At her hip rested a holstered telescopic bow staff. It was her primary non-lethal weapon and she was an expert in its use. D’Nal frowned at the ensemble. It was functional, but it was salvaged from scraps.::
D’Nal: Excellent. I thought we might head towards the promenade and do a little shopping.
::Hopkins rolled her eyes. D’Nal knew he was transparent, but she really did need a new wardrobe. He offered her his arm and she took it with a smile as they exited their quarters.::
Governor D'Nal of Xibalba
Hey, resources can be scary too...
Oops! Well spotted! I've updated it :)
Q: Does it cost anything to join the Antares Project: Legacy RPG Group?
A: In short, No. Antares Project: Legacy is run by a group of dedicated members and we provide all the services and web site resources absolutely free of charge.
Q: Do I need to sign on at a specific time to Sim?
A: For Forum/Node Simming you can sign on at any time, day or night you choose. However you should as a rule sim at least once a week or at the pace set by your commanding officer.
Q: How often should I Sim?
A: This is a difficult question to answer; ideally you should try to ssim at least once a week, or at the pace set by your commanding officer, otherwise there is the danger that you will fall behind with the plot.
Q: How do I become a Captain?
A: The first step is to become a Commander. To do that, you must be recommended for the rank by your Captain. Then, you have to undertake a Commanders Exam which will consist of running a Training Mission. Once you complete this successfully you can be promoted by your Captain to the rank of Commander.
The next step is to be recommended for the position of Commanding Officer by your current Captain, although the time period between can be quite brief or quite lengthy depending upon the current group intake and state of the fleet.
All the recommendations are then sorted through by the senate and the best candidate is then selected depending upon that candidates experience in the group, their simming quality and how they appear to be doing.
Once you have been selected then you get to name and choose the class of your ship, which is then approved by the Senate and the group is setup. Currently new vessels cannot be of the same class as any currently existing in the fleet.
Now is the hard part. All new Commanding Officers must complete a three month trial period to make sure they are up to scratch. However we appreciate some new CO’s have gaps in their knowledge and may require some help, for this reason you will be assigned a 'mentor'. Usually this will be a senior captain who will sit in the background of the group and offers advice and recommendations where necessary or asked. They will also be responsible for keeping the senate informed as to your progress and making a recommendation on your captain’s exam to the senate at the end of the three month trial period. Provided you pass then you will be promoted to the rank of Captain.
Q: What is the Senate, who is involved and what does it do?
A: The Antares Project: Legacy senate currently consists of all the ship commanding officers and the heads of department. It is a diplomatic group where every member has an equal say and an equal vote. As such your captain represents their ship in the Senate.
The Senate is responsible for the running of the group and any major decisions. They decide who gets promoted to captain (and above), any major projects, ideas or problems and also any major shifts of policy.
Q: Can I join more than one ship?
A: We do allow simmers to play more than one character in Antares Project: Legacy, however we generally believe that new members should settle into their first character first. In our experience sometimes people can under-estimate the additional workload of taking on a second character and reading through two or more ships email lists. As such we recommend you wait till you achieve the rank of Lieutenant before venturing along this path.
Q: When I create a Secondary Character, do I have to go through training again?
A: Once a player has been through the Academy they will not need to go through it again, however your details will be checked to ensure you are the person you claim to be.
Q: How do I request a Secondary Character?
A: To request a secondary character you will need to contact your commanding officer who will then pass your request onto the postings officer. Who will advise you on vacant positions however you will need to provide a full biography before you are posted to a vessel.
Q: How do I request a transfer?
A: If you find yourself asking this question, then something has obviously gone wrong. Our advice is to take up any problems or fears with your Captain before it gets to this stage. They will try and accommodate your needs and will do their utmost to be fair.
However if this is not enough to resolve the situation then the correct procedure is to email your Captain and request a promotion. They will then pass your request onto the postings officer. Who will advise you on vacant positions however you will need to provide a full biography before you are posted to a vessel
Q: Where can I find information on Warp Drives, medicines or anything else I need to SIM with?
A: We recommend sites such as Memory Alpha - http://en.memory-alpha.org - for canon information (anything included in the Star Trek TV shows or movies) and Memory Beta - http://memory-beta.wikia.com/ - for non-canon information (anything included in books, comics or other media.)
Q: How can I help Antares Project: Legacy?
A: Our members can help in many ways; the first and most obvious is to tell everyone you know about us. Many of our members have already recommended members and it is our primary and most effective method of advertisement.
Second, if you fancy trying your hand at writing feature articles for the Node News section you can enroll for the 'News Desk' if you have any good and original ideas for articles for that category.
7.1 - Stardates: In the Star Trek universe you could be a million light years from earth and with the extensive use of FTL's (faster than light drives) and the differences between cultures, there had to be an alternative way to work out the dates other than little old Earth. So a standardized system was agreed upon by the Member Planets of the Federation.
To write the stardate firstly take the date ie. 13th January 2014. As usual the month April is indicated numerically by the number 04.
This is arranged as follows:
YR + MNTH + DAY
for instance today's Star date would be 201401.13 if it was January the 13th.
But as you know Star Trek is set in the future, so onto today's date you would add 373 to the first four digits of the stardate making the current star trek stardate 238704.22
Once you know the principle calculations it makes it a lot easier to work out.
Stardates are used primarily if you wish to date an email or personal log but will mainly occur in the Dated History section of Member Biographies.
7.2 - Military Time: All the groups in Antares Project: Legacy use military time. It's a simple concept based upon the 24 hour digital clock designed by the real life military to avoid confusion as to when to attack or arrive. It is however a concept that can take a little getting used to.
As you know Six twenty-three AM is written as 06:23am in numerical form.
However in military time the am and the : are obsolete making the time 0623. It is normally said with the word ‘hours’ after it. E.g.
Delgado: Ensign, I’ll meet you in the shuttlebay at 0623 hours
However, Six PM can be a little bit more difficult. The clock does not start again at noon, and runs on straight until midnight. So six PM is 6 + 12 or 1800 hours.
7.3 - Addressing Officers: As you know Starfleet is a military organization and as such has a specific chain of command and rank system. To make the SIM’S seem that bit more realistic we use the following appropriate formal forms of address:
At all Times: When addressing officers of higher and lower ranks use of the rank and last/only name of the officer -OR- rank alone should suffice e.g.
To the Commanding Officer: When addressing the Commanding Officer use of the rank and last/only name -OR- rank only -OR- Sir/Ma’am. e.g.
To an Officer of Lower Rank: When addressing an officer of lower rank use of the rank and last/only name -OR- last name alone -OR- rank alone -OR- if the officer is male, Mr. and his last/only name. This last form has no female equivalent. e.g.
Doctors: When addressing doctors please be aware they can be addressed by their rank or by Doctor, in any of the above appropriate combinations.
First Names: Generally, a player will only call people by their first names off duty, or when it's only the two of you on duty together.
Note: These forms of address will generally apply for both the SFMC and WCD with only minor alterations and additions.
OOC -- Means Out Of Character. Please note your assignments are for training only, they do not reflect your permanent posting.
((Holodeck Two – Outpost 319))
::The holodeck doors slid open and the Bajoran Captain Ro Lorne walked in followed by her Bolian first officer Lt. Commander Breem Milux. Ro held a padd on one hand and a steaming mug of coffee in the other. She took a long sip and took in the cadet before her. He was a big terran male. Glancing at her padd she noted that Cadet Taylor had completed fill training at the academy, his first shadow tour of duty. This was his final exam.::
Ro: I am Captain Ro Lorne and this is Lt. Commander Breem Milux.::She nodded to the Bolian.:: I will begin by handing out your assignments. Cadet Taylor, you have science. The remaining positions will be covered by myself and Lt. Commander Milux. Begin simulation.
::The holodeck grid disappeared to be replaced with the bridge of an Interpid class starship. Ro headed to the commanding officers seat and Milux took a position at the conn. Taylor moved to the science console.::
Ro: Outpost 135 is a small class 5 science outpost on the edge of Federation space. Every two weeks it sends an update by a subspace relay platform to its nearest neighbour, Starbase 233, eight weeks ago these stopped. Six weeks ago Starbase 233 sent out a small Oberth class vessel, the USS Oberon, to check that all was well with the Outpost since then nothing has been heard from either the Outpost or the Oberon. We are about to investigate this matter on board the USS Lockley. Let’s get underway.
::Milux tapped the keys on the console and the ship began to move.::
Ro: We are on a course for the Outpost at warp 5, our ETA is just under three hours.
::Ro sipped her coffee again::
Ro: Cadet Taylor, Research Outpost 135, how many personnel were allocated to it, what was its function. Also given the area of space we are in, are there any known potential threats nearby? Is there a way to temporarily boost the range of our sensors, if so can we get an early scan of the outpost?
::Ro looked to Milux::
Ro: Mr. Milux, please review the communications that the Outpost sent to the Starbase for the last few months, were the last communications strange in any way? Were there any strange reports? Report anything that could be relevant. Also begin scanning the area ahead, are there any signs of the Oberon? Any unusual readings or other vessels?
::She sipped her coffee again and picked up the padd at her side::
Ro: I will review the psychological profiles of the outpost's personnel and check the medical logs to see if there have been any outbreaks of diseases in the local area. Please feel free to ask me any questions as to what I uncover.
OOC -- Don't wait to be asked, jump right in and make up the next part of the plot!
